Note: I just realized I had already bumped into it sometime in 2007 in the context of the "Sociology of Web 2.0." Thanks to the predictive feature of tags in blogger.com.

Trust and Web 2.0

Michael Swaine writes that "[t]rust is always important in business, but it is fundamental to Web 2.0 in a way that it wasn't to earlier Internet businesses. "

I like "The Sociology of Web 2.0" part which makes a compelling argument against a cookie cutter approach to bootstrapping Social Websites.

Incidentally, I'm tempted to experiment with discussions around this topic using Thinkature here. (it looks like a visual wikispace to me). Will need to give out invites for that purpose.
